Worlds best pizza 2023
May 6, 2025Final day in the eternal city
June 6, 2015Pizza by the MeterÂ
June 1, 2015Yesterday we set off to walk to Vico Equense which is about 6 miles away. We got to Meta about halfway and discovered that the road goes almost straight up for a mile or so over the mountain. Looks like a needed enhancement to Apple maps is elevation information 🙂 We took the train the rest of the way. Our reason for the trip was to try a new pizza place, Pizza a metro (aka Pizza University). The Pizza is sold by the Meter. One meter serves about 5 people so we ordered a half meter for 2. This pizza rivals Da Michele in Napoli but it’s a bit different in that they add parmigiano, non standard but an interesting addition that added a bit of a different flavor. We also had an appetizer of fried Italian delights (rice balls, Potatoe croquets, etc.), also very good. We also found a great pasticceria along the way in Meta (Romano).

I really enjoyed this hotel when I stayed in 2013. The room was small but it was very clean, nice view, nice people and a good breakfast. They even have a little lemon and orange grove below the hotel that they make their own jam from that is served at breakfast and for sale.

This is a delicatessen-style restaurant open only at midday. It is popular with gourmets who are not content with only a sandwich for lunch. In the heart of the city centre, this is a distinctive place, a food shop with tables at the back. The menu is extremely traditional—pasta with herbs, pumpkin or potatoes and chickpeas to start. For the main course, the diner may choose from a variety of boiled or roasted meats. The desserts are also excellent including zabaglione covered with warm chocolate.

Ask for room away from Street on the piazza. This is where we normally stay – great place.Directions: Take Vaporetto (water bus) #1 to S. Angelo stop. Upon departing, walk straight to a tall brick building. Take the alley on the left of the building & follow it around the corner. Cross the first bridge on the left. Go straight to a courtyard on the right. This is the hotel’s courtyard.
