Let’s Walk

May 31, 2015

Yesterday we took one of long walks up into the hills above Sorrento. The views up close and off in the distance were spectacular!

Marina di Puolo

May 30, 2015

Yesterday, we took a long walk to a small fishing village called Puolo that the bar tender at the hotel, Antonio, told us about (his favorite fishing spot). The walk was through the Olive and Lemon groves.

Nobleman’s Bath and the long goodbye

May 29, 2015

We walked to the Nobleman’s bath yesterday. This is the amazing Roman ruin of a Nobleman’s palace and his adjoining natural “bath” created by a natural land formation. It’s also a great walk! We then had a late lunch and wrapped up shopping in anticipation of Bill, Sandy, Susan and Grace heading home. 😦

I bought some pens made of wood by one of the inlaid wood artisans of Sorrento. This man has been making these beautiful wood objects for 60 years! We met his son, Salvation, one of the next generation of artisans. I’m very happy to see this tradition carry on!

Napoli

May 28, 2015

We spent yesterday in Napoli. We took the boat over which worked out very well. The port is right near Piazza Municipo so I could see about having my Dad’s watch repaired. They lubricated it and it worked for about an hour. The Watch man said that they could do a complete refurbish but couldn’t have it done by the time we go home. Maybe I’ll have that done next year or in the states. We then walked down to da Michele for a wonderful pizza and then took a cab up to the Vomero. We were disappointed that the Floridiana Park where my Mom had many great memories is mostly closed for restoration. We walked around the Vomero to the place my grand mother lived, the place where my family’s shoe store was and where my Dad’s favorite pastry shop, Mario Danielle used to be. Many great memories, especially for Mom.

A trip back in time – Pompeii

May 27, 2015

We visited the always fascinating Pompeii yesterday. They have excavated more of the ruins since we were last there. Such an amazing place!

Bella Capri

May 26, 2015

We spent yesterday in Capri. It was a perfect day to walk around the island. The ladies did some shopping and Bill and I took the Chairlift up to Monte Solara. Then we had a fantastic pizza at Ristorante Barbarossa.

It puts the “Hill” in Hilltown

May 25, 2015

We spent the day in Positano. The bus ride was as exciting as ever. We had fun exploring the town and a nice lunch at La Zagara, a neat little bar tucked into the side of the hill. We had dinner at one of our favorites in Sorrento, San Antonino.

Bella Sorrento

May 24, 2015

We arrived in Sorrento on Friday. It’s as beautiful as ever. We are enjoying all the great food of Campania. Yesterday, we had a patio lunch featuring beautiful Buffalo Mozzarella and then dinner at “The Garden,” a new restaurant we discovered last year.

The King of Wines

May 21, 2015

Today we took a day trip to Montalcino followed by a wine tasting at the Molesini wine shop in Cortona. This immediately lead to additions to my wine shipment. I may have just added a year to my retirement age to pay for these delights. But life is good.

Towers, Towers everywhere!

May 20, 2015

We took a day trip to San Gimignano. What a beautiful city!
